Electrophoresis
Microsystems for Biomedical Applications

We would like to invite you to contribute to the specisl issue on “Microsystems for Biomedical Applications” to be published by Electrophoresis. We view this special issue as an opportunity to furthering the field of lab-on-a-chip. In fact, the development of microfluidic lab-on-a-chip technology has paved a new way for scientists and engineers to develop analytical platforms for point-of-care diagnosis and test, especially in the cellular to biomolecular levels. Beginning from the early stage of microfluidic technology, researchers has used various unique designs of fluidic micro-circuits and multiplexed micro-systems as analytical instruments for a broad range of biomedical analyses, such as single-cell analysis, biochemical sensor systems, immunoassays and molecular diagnoses. Due to the multidisciplinary characteristics of this platform technology, it has attracted experts from every major field including chemistry, physics, biology, materials science, electronic engineering and bioengineering. This special issue is dedicated to the state-of-the-art in biomedical microsystems and emphasizes point-of-care applications. Through a collection of original and invited papers, this issue aims to further promote the awareness of this enabling technology in the community of biomedical microsystems, and encourage research collaboration across the fields to address the critical and urgent biomedical concerns.

The scope of the issue covers but not limited to the following aspects:
1.Detection, separation and manipulation of biological samples in the microsystems based on electrokinetic (electrophoretic, dielectrophoretic, etc.) and other combination methods
2.Integration of complex fluidic control and characterizing components on lab-on-a-chip systems
3.Single-cell or subcellular analyses on a chip
4.Nanoscale/nanopore DNA sequencing
5.Theoretical and numerical modeling of electrokinetic microfluidic components

The deadline for papers submission is on or before July 15, 2018. The publication time frame of the specisl issue is in the first half of the year 2019.
We look forward to receiving your contribution to the special issue. For any question regarding the issue, please do not hesitate to contact any one of us. Thank you.
